The Bun is Out of the Oven

21 Weeks

2 Ups this Week:

  1. Harold felt Cameron move last night! I had just finished eatting dinner & she was moving all over the place. So, he put his hand on my belly and only felt a very gentle nudge from the outside. Harold looked at me and I said, “that was her!” Very neat…
  2. Now that we know she’s a girl, and I (and Hal) can feel her moving it all feels more real. There is a living being growing inside me and it’s our baby! She no longer feels like the “force that has taken over my body.” HA!

2 Downs this Week:

  1. I’ve been having this acid reflux thing the last couple days. I feel like my food is sitting in my throat waiting to come back up. Gross, I know. I’m not sure if it’s specific things I’m eatting that’s causing it or what. But, it’s manageable.
  2. Nov-Dec is one of the busiest times of year for me work-wise. That combined with general “pregnant lady moodiness” has made me slightly grumpy this week. Oh well, I’ll get over it!

very cool about her moving around so much! for my acid reflux, i tend to avoid any greasy foods/carbonated beverages. there are other foods to avoid as well but i can’t think of what they are right now. i hope you feel better soon!

Hi Jessica, it’s Melix.
I have the acid reflux thing too. I think it is heartburn. MIne started as soon as the bulk of my nausea dissipated at the end of the 17th week. It is not unusual to have it for the remainder of the pregnancy. It is pretty uncomfortable, I’m there with you on that one! Food seems to stick or remain in my throat too. I’ve tried Mylanta two nights ago (2 teaspoons) and it does work to calm it. I haven’t checked with my doctor as to the frequency of taking it so I just took it once. I was tempted last night, but lulled myself to sleep somehow.
I have tried chewing gum (all types except mint) and it works. Papaya is said to work for it as well.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips ladies. I mistakenly thought heartburn was mostly in the chest, but after hearing & reading more about it, I guess it is heartburn that I’m having. Mine hurts only in my throat though.

I just read a list of trigger foods which I’ll try to avoid. And now realize why I was feeling sick after drinking OJ. So, no more citrus juices for me!!

My Ma told me she had HORRIBLE heartburn while pregnant. It’s not quite as bad as the nausea/vommiting, but it’s up there with it. A couple times when I’ve had bad heartburn I have ended up throwing up.

How is everything else going Melix?

Jessica, its going OK. I’m going to be 19 weeks in a few days. Who would think we would trade the vomiting for the heartburn? I was prepared to start feeling better (sigh!). A lot of women get heartburn (my mom included), and everyone was asking me before I got heartburn if I started getting heartburn yet! It plagues alot of women during pregnancy.

Other than that, I’m trying to gain weight as best as I can. I worry about how I’m going to eat properly with the heartburn being so pervasive, but I guess everyone just does. And, I’ll do the same.

Nice things include feeling the little one tickle me daily. In 3 weeks, I do a sono to learn the baby’s sex. It will be a nice gift right before Christmas!

Best of luck with all pregnancys. It is truly a wonderful gift.

For more info on what to eat and what not to eat that may disturb your acid reflux, please visit my site. I have been there and done that! Spicy and greasy foods are a big No-No! (Well, once per week is okay, depending on your severity.)
